CaseStudy- Orange Challenge

ClientBrief

Bicycle Network want to encourage Australians to be more physically active.  The Orange Challenge is the flagship event in NSW and was returning in 2023 after a few years on hold.  

Primary focus was editorial coverage of the event for use in future marketing materials.

Delivery of images during the event was needed so they could be shared straight to social media as the event was on. Key photo included but were not limited to: Start, Event centre, scenery shots with riders on course, on-route support, rest stops, volunteers, riders crossing finish, post-ride village and atmosphere.  Drone images where possible. 

Diversity of age, gender, ethnicity while avoiding images with traffic, solo riders all while riding legally following road rules.

This event covered a large space with over 100km of road being used.  This was a challenge and a blessing. 

A challenge as finding scenic locations during the event would have proved a challenge if I just drove with the riders trying to keep up.  A Google maps street view scout prior to the event let me pin some potential locations but a pre-race drive let me really decide which locations were the best. 

Then the blessing came as riders only go so fast and knowing which locations I wanted to shoot, I could get the shot then drive off to the next location, wait for some riders an then continue on.
